How do you avoid contamination to your food?  Well, one of the best ways is to look for organically-grown foods at the grocery store.  Organically-grown foods are safer because they are grown:

• without pesticides
• without chemical fertilize
• without genetic manipulation

Why is that important?  Because pesticide residue can cause cancer and lots of other complications like genetic mutations and long term ill health.  When food crops are fertilized with chemical fertilizers they are void of many of the micronutrients that are contained in compost.  There is also the danger that the food has been genetically manipulated, including adding animal genes to the plant, and possibly creating a new disease.
