| Dear Marilyn,
Getting your children on the Hallelujah Diet &
Lifestyle can be difficult, but very rewarding.
The Bible says:
"Train up a child in the way that he should go:
and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Prov.
22:6 KJV
"And that from a child thou hast known the holy
scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." II
Timothy 3:15
In the first chapter of the book of Daniel,
we see that the Hebrew captives proved
the plant-based diet was powerful in keeping youth
healthy and good looking. We hope that this issue
will help you teach The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle
to your children, and lead them to faith in God and His
original diet. |
| Children's Health Begins at
Conception |
Many medical
doctors are realizing that the perfect diet for
children, before and after birth, is a vegan
diet. The list of them includes
Michael Klaper, M.D., author of Pregnancy, Children,
and the Vegan Diet, Dr. Spock, in his seventh
edition of Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care, John
McDougall, M.D., author of The McDougall Plan,
and Joel Fuhrman, M.D., author of Disease-Proof Your
Child. The best way to take advantage of the
power of the vegan or plant-based diet is before
conception where both parents are on the diet.
Rhonda Malkmus, author of Recipes for Life from
God's Garden, says "At Hallelujah Acres we
recommend, whenever possible, that a young couple get on
the Hallelujah Diet at least six months prior to
conception. The reason? We have found that
this diet of living foods can actually repair damaged
DNA. By giving both parents living food, they
develop the strongest sperm and egg possible so the
child produced by this union will have the very best
start in life." The elements of The Hallelujah
Diet, consisting of raw fruits and vegetables, and small
quantities of raw nuts and seeds are perfect for
pregnant mothers with a few exceptions. The
addition of freshly juiced vegetables and BarleyMax can add
concentrated nutrition that will get the baby off to a
tremendous start. The percentage of fruits to
vegetables can still be maintained at 15% fruit and 85%
vegetables, while an increase in starches will help add
the approximately 300 additional calories to mom's diet
for the baby in her tummy. Instead of the Fiber
Cleanse, recommended for beginning students on the H.D.,
ground organic flax seed will maintain an adequate
amount of fiber for mom and levels of the essential
fatty acid, Omega 3. Walking and swimming are
great exercises for an expectant mom. Marilyn and
I often sang to our babies in the womb to give them love
even before they were delivered. An excellent
source of information for pregnant moms is Olin Idol's
book, Pregnancy, Children,
and The Hallelujah Diet. In it Olin recommends that
expectant moms also consider taking a DHA supplement,
which will insure that they get this necessary nutrient
that may be missing from the plant based diet.
Marilyn and I also would like for you to
consider having your baby delivered by an experienced
midwife. We have three children and each was
delivered by a different method. By far, the
most healthy, most enjoyable, and most beneficial method
was the last one, where two midwives and I helped my
wife to deliver a beautiful little girl named Daisy. She
also is the artist who painted the cover of Marilyn's Hallelujah! Simple
Weekly Meal Plans, one of the best book buys at
Hallelujah Acres. May God bless you as you seek to birth
more children into the Kingdom here on
earth. |
| Babies, Crawlers, and
Toddlers |
God made the
perfect food for babies and He gave it to moms so that
there would be a bond between mother and baby that could
not be easily broken. The satisfaction between
mother and suckling child is almost heavenly.
There is a peace there that defies description.
The devil has fooled some women into believing that
there is something unclean and troublesome about breast
feeding. Yes, it can be painful at times, but the
pleasures far outweigh any minor
inconveniences.
The late pediatrician Robert
Mendelsohn, M.D., who wrote the landmark baby book
titled How to
Raise a Healthy Child In Spite of Your Doctor,
has documented several advantages of breast
feeding. Here they are:
- Breast milk is far superior to cow's milk or
formula in providing the proper amount of calcium,
iron, protein, and fat.
- A breastfed baby gains from his mother's milk a
natural immunity to many allergies and infections that
is denied to babies who are bottle-fed.
- The bonding of mother and child is regarded as
essential to your baby's emotional development, and it
provides emotional rewards for you, as well.
- The sucking of the new baby will help shrink the
uterus and hasten its healing.
- Excess weight gained in pregnancy will be
dissolved and given to the baby.
- Breastfeeding will give mom a natural
contraception for at least 6 months and sometimes as
much as 2 1/2 years.
How long should one breast
feed? One good rule is this. When they have
teeth that bite then its time to start weaning them from
the breast. With our three children, the one that
was on the breast longest was the one with the least
amount of allergies. Dr. Joel Fuhrman says "I
strongly recommend that breast-feeding be continued to
at least eighteen months and preferably two years or
longer. After a year, they are eating enough food,
so the frequency of breast-feeding diminishes
greatly...Prolonged breast-feeding reduces the risk of
breast cancer (in the mother)."
In regard to when
to introduce solid foods to babies, Rhonda Malkmus
states "Until a child's molars start to appear about the
age of 18 to 24 months, the child's jaws are not fully
formed, nor is the digestive system developed enough to
handle solids. Therefore a child should not be
weaned until his system is ready for a more diverse
diet. After molars appear, raw vegetables can be
pureed and added to the diet and as the child begins to
chew, these raw vegetables can be ground less and less
finely in a food processor or blender. As the
child begins to chew food, some cooked food - such as
baked potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, steamed vegetables
and perhaps some brown rice can also be added to the
diet."
Stay tuned to find out how to feed your
children at the next stage of
life.

| Children & Good
Nutrition |
 It is a proven
effect. Bad food results in bad
behavior. One of most respected researchers in
the area of juvenile and adult delinquency has some
pretty good advice for parents. In her book, Food &
Behavior, Barbara Stit, Ph.D., writes "Parents shape
their children's behavior in a way perhaps more profound
than teaching them right from wrong. By the way
they feed their children, and the way they teach their
teens to feed themselves, they help the child develop
the sort of healthy nervous system which will help them
discern right from wrong, and to act in healthy and
productive ways. Healthy, happy kids (and adults)
simply don't get into trouble." Training in
nutrition needs to begin early in a child's life to be
effective. We must model healthy eating to teach
our children long-lasting lessons. For those of
you who have babies and small children it will be a lot
easier to teach them good eating habits, since they have
not been exposed to bad eating habits. For those
of you who started the healthy diet after modeling bad
eating habits in front of your children it is decidedly
more difficult. But it can be done. Dr. Stit
suggests "forgetting to buy" those favorite junk foods
and slipping nutritious foods into the daily menu.
While watching TV you can editorialize the commercials
in order to point out the negative hypnotic effect with
which the food companies want to seduce your
children. Giving your kids information on why a
food is good or bad is necessary so that they will know
how to rebut a peer at school who ridicules good
nutrition. When the Polks started The Hallelujah Diet
& Lifestyle we had two boys who were 17 and 21
and a 9 year-old girl. It was not easy to convince them
that we needed a diet change. So we compromised a
bit and had two cheat nights per week. But when
their mom recovered from a terrible illness called
Fibromyalgia, that caught their attention. They
saw first hand how a healthy diet could change the
family landscape. They realized that healthy
eating had great benefits. They no longer got
sick, felt tired, or had acne. They had a
healthier mom and dad and it brought great peace to our
home. And that's how you can do it too.
Begin to teach The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle to
your family and experience the freedom from illness and
emotional stress. It could happen! May God give
you the strength to try it. Contact us if you need

Vaccinations?
|
In his weekly Health Tips email newsletter, Rev.
George Malkmus exposed the flawed vaccination
research project by the Center for Disease Control. That
study, the results released just last week,
investigated the danger of mercury (Thimerosal) in
vaccinations and found no direct evidence of correlation
to neurological problems. However, a previous
study done by George Washington University (GWU)
revealed quite a different conclusion. Here are
brother Malkmus' conclusions as well as Dr. Michael
Donaldson's own conclusions on the GWU study. Taken from
Health Tips, Oct. 2, 2007. Used by permission.
[CONCLUSIONS (Rev. Malkmus):
The present study (GWU) provides the first
epidemiological evidence showing that as Thimerosal was
removed from childhood vaccines, the number of NDs
(neurological) diseases) has decreased in the
US. The analysis techniques utilized attempted
to minimize chance or bias/confounding. Additional
research should be conducted to further evaluate the
relationship between TCVs (toxoid containing
vaccinations) and NDs. This is especially true because
the handling of vaccine safety data from the
National Immunization Program of the CDC has been called
into question by the Institute of Medicine of the
National Academy of Sciences in 2005. PMID:
16733480 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]
COMMENTS BY MICHAEL DONALDSON,
PHD:
This study answers the question, "Is mercury
in infant vaccinations related to autism, mental
retardation, and speech disorders?" In July 1999
the CDC finally recommended the removal of thimerosal (a
50% mercury preservative) from pediatric vaccines.
So, since the mercury has been removed,
have incident rates of autism, mental retardation, and
speech disorders decreased? One study by the
CDC initially showed a link between thimerosal and
autism, but when they chose their dataset very carefully
they could find no link. This study here looked at
reports made to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting
System, being careful to minimize bias in the
analysis. The results are astounding
and incriminating. The temporal trend in the data
is unmistakable. Mercury is condemned as we and
many others have suspected for over a decade.
Mercury is not the only bad thing in vaccines, but its
removal is very good news for those that choose to
vaccinate their children. It is one less poison
being injected directly into the bloodstream of
babies. This does not mean that vaccines are now
safe. GOD GAVE US AN IMMUNE SYSTEM TO PROTECT US
FROM DISEASE, AND IF WE STRENGTHEN THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
DESIGNED BY GOD WE WILL HAVE EXCELLENT HEALTH WITHOUT
THE USE OF THESE DANGEROUS VACCINES.]
When we eat
God's original foods in their raw and organic forms we
strengthen our immune system to the point where it can
defend against a vast array of pathogens. As for me and
my house, we will depend on God's miraculous
self-healing body for our defense. We will feed it
food as close to His original design as possible in
order to prepare our defenses rather than depend on
man-made vaccines that are dangerous and unnecessary.

Spotlight On Smoothies & Ice
Cream
|

Who says you can't have ice cream and shakes on The
Hallelujah Diet? You certainly can, in a manner of
speaking. With your VitaMix you can
make smoothies and with your Green Star Juicer
you can make a substitute ice cream. Here's
how. Freeze fresh berries in season and
keep them in the freezer for special times. Also be sure
to freeze some bananas for both your smoothies and your
ice cream creations. With berries and fruit in
season, just wash them, let them drain and dry, then put
them in zip lock freezer bags for keeping until
ready. Only remove the amount you want at the
time. Larger fruit may need to be cut into smaller
pieces. When saving bananas, wait until they are
very rip and then peel them and put them into a zip lock
bag for keeping in the freezer. They will keep in
the freezer for almost two weeks before they start
turning brown. Then just remove the ones you need
and put the rest back for next time. When making
smoothies in the Vitamix, always start with a little
water or rice milk to get things mixing. Then add frozen
fruit, and a sweetener like Medjool dates or honey. Mix
until smooth, then pour into nice serving glasses with a
garnish and straw. When making ice cream in the
Green Star Juicer, use the homogenizing blank (open
blank) with the open end down and grind your frozen
fruit letting it fall into a bowl underneath. You
can mix several different fruits at a time making a
Neapolitan ice cream. Top with nuts for a great
treat that is nutritious and non dairy.
