| CBSNews.com Reports New Study on Diabetes |
|
A
new study published in the journal, Diabetes
Care has shown that a vegan
diet (The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle) is more effective in reducing need for drugs
in controlling type 2 diabetes than the
traditional American Dietetic Association's diet.
As reported by CBSNews.com on July 26th,
"Researchers found 43 percent of people with type
2 diabetes who followed a low-fat vegan diet for 22 weeks reduced their need to take medications to manage their disease compared with 26 percent of those who followed the diet recommended by The American
Diabetes Association (ADA)".
A number of other results were striking in the study.
- Weight loss for
the vegan group averaged 14 lbs while the ADA diet group averaged only 7
lbs.
- LDL (Bad) Cholesterol was lowered by 21% in the vegan group compared with 11% in the ADA group who did not change their cholesterol drug use.
- Measures of blood sugar control also improved more
significantly among those who followed the low-fat vegan diet than among those who followed the ADA diet and who did not change their diabetes drug use.
- Measures of blood sugar control improved
more significantly among those who followed the low-fat vegan diet than
among those who followed the ADA diet and who did not change their diabetes
drug use.
Researchers say the vegan diet represents a major change from
current diabetes diets because there are no limits on calories, carbohydrates,
and portions, which may make it easier for some people to follow. For more detail on this issue,

"Hi, Doug & Marilyn. I do thank you very much for the email (newsletter). I
enjoyed reading it. I loved the tips you included. I plan to serve Marilyn's
Mock Meat Loaf this Saturday. I do not have a Health Minister here in
Winston-Salem so I am going to use your Pin number, ACO, when buying
products (from Hallelujah Acres). Looking forward to reading your book, Doug. I
want you both to know I was having such a hard time on the Hallelujah Diet
before taking your culinary class. I am on the diet now and without any stress
and loving it. I have had some of my resident's and co-workers say to me, that I
have a beautiful glow on my face. It is because of God and the peace I have now
on the Hallelujah Diet. I love you both. Thanks for saving my life." Lavonia.

I
remember one of the sins of my teenage years was to drive out into the countryside with a group of guys and find a watermelon patch on a hot summer
night. The thrill of stealing a watermelon and bursting it open on the street
is still vivid in my memory. We would eat it hurriedly but it still tasted
great. Of course I don't recommend doing what I did in my youthful foolery,
but I do recommend getting a good watermelon and enjoying it as often as you
can. They are a wonderful blessing from the Lord, nutritionally- speaking as
well as good tasting.
Watermelon is low in calories (only 51 per cup) but loaded with vitamins A and
C, potassium, and the antioxidant lycopene. Yes, there is more lycopene in
watermelon than tomatoes. That means great help for the prostate gland, men. And
on top of that, it's great heart protection, by lowering cholesterol. The
watermelon is also a great source of potassium, the mineral that battles high
blood pressure and stroke.
Remember to eat melons alone or leave them alone. Why?
Because melons digest very quickly and if mixed with foods that digest slowly, like
proteins or fats, you will get bloating and gas and probably cramping as well.
On a hot day like today, watermelon can give you a real boost in hydration,
energy, and nutrition.

| Leading Killer of Women? CVD |
|
|
According
to HeartCenterOnline, cardiovascular disease is
the leading killer of women in America. Since 1984
CVD has killed more women than men.
"Cardiovascular disease claims more female lives
than breast cancer, accidents and diabetes
combined." The report goes on to say that:
- heart attacks are more deadly to women than to men.
- women are more likely to have a second heart attack within one year
- women have less "typical" symptoms of heart attack
So please, ladies, listen to Marilyn and me and get healthy! Begin
today to learn about The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle that can lower your risk of
sudden death by heart attack or stroke. Call us, email us, come to our seminar,
join our weekly support class, and get back to the Garden diet that brings heart
health, wellness, and renewed vitality for the mission field in which God has
planted you. May the Lord bless you. |

A dear friend, Judy, gave me this recipe a few years ago. We always
enjoy it. Hope you do too!
1 large eggplant, peeled and cut in chunks
2 cups fresh tomatoes, diced
1/2 cup red or yellow pepper, diced
1/2 Vidalia onion, diced
1 large carrot, sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt
1 teaspoon dried oregano (I recommend Frontier or Simply Organic)
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
Put all of the ingredients in a pot. Cook on medium heat until tender.
Serve over brown rice or whole wheat angel hair. Of course, this can
easily be doubled for a larger family. Serve with a large garden salad and
another vegetable on the side and walla - dinner is served!
