location. After almost seven
years based at home, we believe that God
wants us to have a local West
Tennessee store front in Jackson. We are
busy making preparations to open
a store sometime this year. It is a
huge undertaking. We need your
prayers and support. Our company is
organizing as a Limited Liability
Company with partners who will
contribute capital for financing
the company as well as receive
benefits from profits. If you

envision a Resource Center here in Jackson,
Tennessee where we would have a
variety of healthy products that
contribute to The Hallelujah Diet

classroom where we could teach
the "Get Healthy" classes as well as
culinary classes. Personal health
counseling would be available in our
store in a private setting with
Doug Polk, Doctor of Naturopath. We
are looking for just the right
location in this busy, retail center of
West Tennessee. We humbly ask
that you please pray for us, as we take
an enormous leap of faith. We
will maintain our web site, but with a

What's So Bad About Meat?
Every day we are bombarded
with advertising about chicken, burgers,
pizza, fish, shrimp, and other
flesh foods that are so normal for
Americans. Most people eat meats
every meal. For breakfast, it's
sausage and biscuits or ham and
biscuits. For lunch, meat is on almost
every menu item. For dinner, meat
is the main course. All meals and
all menus are anchored by the
meat. It seems that the food industry is
convinced that meat is healthy.
But the best science says
otherwise. What is in meat that is so
dangerous? O.K. Here is my list.
1. The China Study points out
that the animal protein,casein, which is
present in all meats (including
all dairy products), is a powerful
promoter of the growth of cancer
cells.
2. The same study also points out
that with only minimal addition of
meats, the degenerative diseases
show up.
3. Meat contains prions, mutated
proteins that cause Mad Cow Disease
in humans, the symptoms of which
mimic Alzheimer's disease.
4. Meat stresses the liver since
it is loaded with cholesterol.
Plant-based foods contain no
cholesterol, since the liver makes just
the right amount.
5. The cholesterol in meats clogs
arteries, causing plaque buildup,
resulting in hypertension,
strokes, heart attacks, and death.
6. Meat is loaded with chemicals,
such as taste enhancers, antibiotics,
and growth hormones.
7. Meat can't be eaten by itself.
It must have sauces, gravies,
seasonings, etc. to be enjoyed.
Ever eaten a piece of meat without any
seasonings or sauces?
8. Meat is not necessary for
essential amino acids. The plant foods
are complete, even without
combining certain foods to achieve the essentials.
9. Meat eating is not macho.
Studies show that meat eating lowers male
potency (sperm count reduced).
10. The perfect diet in the Bible
is the original diet from Genesis

Spotlight on Broccoli
Broccoli is one of the most
beneficial vegetables you can eat! This
dark green has twice as much
vitamin C as oranges, and is a good
source of vitamin A, potassium,
and calcium. It is a great cancer
fighter too, along with the other
cruciferous veggies like
cauliflower, cabbage, and brussel
sprouts. One element in broccoli,
indole-3-carbinol, can stop the
growth of breast cancer, according to
a University of California at
Berkley research project. It's also good
for lowering blood pressure
because of its high content of potassium,
calcium, vitamin C, and
magnesium. If that's not enough, realize that
broccoli can improve heart health
by fighting artery-damaging amino
acid homocysteine. If you have
watched the video "The Miraculous
Self-Healing Body" you know that
Dr. Joel Fuhrman points out that
broccoli has almost twice the
protein per calorie than steak. If you
have a sprouter, try sprouting
some broccoli, since the lutein in
broccoli can increase your
anti-oxidant store in your body to fight
free radicals. Marilyn and I love

Idols In Our Temples (Excerpt
from Doug's book)
In II Kings 21:7 and in II
Chronicles 33:3 we are told that King
Manasseh made and put into the
temple idols that desecrated the temple
of Jehovah. As the Southern
Kingdom progressed more and more toward
destruction and captivity, so
waned the presence of the Spirit of God
in His temple. After the
captivity of Judah in Babylon, the prophet
Ezekiel was shown in a vision the
process of desecration of the temple
and the priests as recorded in
Ezekiel 8:13-14.
"He said also unto me, Turn
thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater
abominations that they do. Then
he brought me to the door of the gate
of the LORD’S house which was
toward the north; and, behold, there sat
women weeping for Tammuz."
As I read Matthew Henry’s
commentary on this passage, I was struck by
the similarities then and now.
Tammuz, one of the idols of the
Assyrians, was mourned because he
died. This passage showed that one
of the four sins of the
desecrated temple was shown to be an idol of
death. This idol of Judah can be
compared to the idols of our day.
"An abominable thing indeed
that any should choose rather to serve an
idol in tears than to serve the
true God with joyfulness and gladness
of heart!"
What idols are keeping us from
the Lord of Lords? Could it be that we
are trusting in drugs and doctors
more than in the Living God and His
perfect diet? How my heart
breaks each time I hear of a saint who has
resolved to follow the doctor’s
orders and submit to deadly radiation,
chemotherapy, and surgery or to a
life of dangerous drugs and prison
in rest homes! How discouraging
it is to a Health Minister for fellow
brothers and sisters in Christ to
be totally oblivious to the highly
probable deliverance from disease
waiting for the disciplined return
to God’s original diet and
lifestyle!. What a shame it is for a
soldier of the cross to give up
the fight for life because of a lack
of faith in the miraculous
self-healing body given to us by the Master
Designer. Plant based foods have
proven to be effective in
strengthening the immune system
so that it can defeat cancer cells.

Marilyn's Layered Mexican
Casserole
NOTE: Doug recently discovered an
error in this recipe the other day
when he was making it for our
dinner. ( I usually make it from memory
so I had not noticed this
before.) In my book it is stated that you
add 1/4 cup bulgur wheat, but
that should be 1/2 cup instead. Here is
the recipe:
Layer the following in a 9" by
13" dish that has been lightly sprayed
with olive oil.
1. 2 cups warm, mashed beans*
2. 3 whole wheat tortilla shells,
warmed and cut into bite-size pieces
3. Arrowhead Mills Organic Bulgur
Wheat prepared as follows: Boil
1-1/2 cups of water. Add 1/2 cup
bulgur wheat and 1/4 package Simply
Organic Taco Mix. Simmer for 10
minutes. Remove from heat and let set
for 15 minutes.
4. Lettuce that has been torn.
(Never use iceberg lettuce as it has
very little nutrition.)
5. Chopped tomatoes
6. Chopped onions
7. Sliced black olives
8. Salsa
9. Grated cheese substitute
(optional)
* If you are in a hurry, use the
canned, vegetarian refried beans or
organic black beans, reserving a
little of the water and mash. A
better choice would be to use
dried black or turtle beans. Soak
overnight, drain, cover with
distilled water, and 1/4 teaspoon Celtic
Sea Salt and simmer 1-1/2 hours.
Mash with a little of the water and
use in recipe. My family loves
this dish!
