Local "Get Healthy" Seminar Starts March 3rd

Now is the time to tell those sick and/or overweight friends about the
next "Get Healthy! Stay Balanced" seminar that Doug & Marilyn will be
leading. Beginning Friday, March 3rd, at 6:30 P.M. at the Baptist
Student Union across from Jackson State Community College in Jackson,

Which Foods Contribute to Disease?

At our seminar, "Get Healthy! Stay Balanced", we teach about the foods
that contribute to ill health and death. The latest independent
research shows that the plant based diet is the healthiest diet on
earth. We should suspect that, because it is God's original diet from
Genesis 1:29. But why are plant foods better for us than animal
products? There are several reasons. The first reason is that animal
foods all have cholesterol and saturated fat, which clog our arteries,
build up plaque and contribute to heart attacks and strokes. Plant
foods have no cholesterol or animal fats. The liver makes cholesterol
in just the right amounts if the food source is plant based. The
second reason animal foods are dangerous is that all of them contain
animal protein, which has been shown to be a cancer promoter (The
China Study and numerous others). Plant foods contain adequate protein
in a form which the body can readily assimilate without stress on the
liver or kidneys. The third reason animal foods are dangerous is that
they all leave an acid ash or residue in the body that must be
neutralized in order for homeostasis to be maintained. The blood pH
must never fall more than one tenth of a point below or above 7.4 or
you die. That's why Americans have a problem with osteoporosis (porous
bones). The acid residue from digesting animal products causes the
body to rob alkaline minerals from bones and teeth to raise the
alkalinity of the blood and tissues. There are plenty of other toxins
in animal products such as hormones (chickens especially), excess iron
(beef), heavy metals (fish), and bacteria (all flesh), to name a few.
The most overlooked threat in animal products is Mad Cow Disease,
which eats holes in the brains of cows (or other animals and humans),
which is why it is called bovine spongiform encephalopathy. There is
no cure for the human strain of this disease, Jacob Creutzfeldt
Disease, and it has an incubation period of 10 to 30 years. Adding to
the danger is that our country does not test near enough of our
livestock to insure us against it. The animal has to be autopsied for
the test to be conclusive. With all this information, we should be
shunning animal products and getting back to the food God intended us
to eat - the plants (vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds).

Which Foods Promote Health?

The foods that contribute to vitality, energy, growth, and longevity
are the plant foods. There are literally thousands of research
articles that prove that plant based diets are healthiest of all. But
we get propaganda from the food industry, and in particularly the meat
and dairy industries, which promote the notion that we cannot do
without meats and milk for health. This is a lie and finally the USDA
admitted it this year when they came out with their new food
guidelines. Why are plant foods so good for us? There are some pretty
good reasons. First, plant foods are live, not dead like meats and
dairy. What is a live food? A live food is one that is complete in
that it has all the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, protein,
enzymes, and phytonutrients in just the right synergy to be
distinguishable by the body as food. Your body is programmed by your
Creator to recognize real food from toxins. It's called innate
intelligence and every cell has it, unless it is a cancer cell. So the
innately intelligent cells know exactly what to do with real live food
and the body handles it without any stress at all. BUT, if you give
your body incomplete foods, animal foods, dead foods (cooked until
they are void of the synergistic nutrients mentioned above), and
processed foods (fractured foods) your body will be stressed to either
complete the food or to expel it through the various avenues such as
the sweat glands, mucous membranes, digestive tract, mouth, ears, or
eyes. If the body is too weak to expel the toxins, it will store them
in tissue such as kidneys (kidney stones), bladder, gaul bladder (gaul
stones), liver (liver stones), joints, lymph nodes, arteries, veins,
lungs, and digestive tract (polyps and compaction). The plant foods
are safe and healthy and are complete in themselves. All plant foods
are also rich in antioxidants, which lower free radical damage to
cells. Get back to the Garden foods and you will get back to health
and optimal weight.

Marilyn's dad passed away last Thursday, January 26th. We appreciate
the prayers and thoughts of those of you who knew about his illness.
Please pray for Marilyn, her two brothers, and her mom, as well as for
me and the rest of the family as we adjust to life without this fine
Christian man.

Spotlight on Carrots

Carrots are native to Afghanistan. Most people don't realize it but
carrots were originally red, black, yellow, white, and purple. Our
hybridized orange ones are very rich in beta carotene, a great
antioxidant and cancer fighter and defender against heart disease.
They also contain alpha carotene, another great antioxidant.
Antioxidants are wonderfully abundant in the plant foods. They remove
deadly free radicals which can multiply out of control and destroy
good cells, including DNA. Carrots have no fat or cholesterol, but are
loaded with plenty of natural sugar (next to beets being the sweetest
vegetable), great fiber, calcium and sodium, necessary minerals for
good health. According to Dr. Norman Walker one pint of carrot juice
is equivalent to 25 pounds of calcium tablets. The beta carotene is
used by the body to form Vitamin A, necessary for healthy eyes.
Carrots can reduce your risk of cancer by nearly 40%. The Hallelujah
Diet and Lifestyle recommends at least three 8 ounce glasses of fresh
carrot juice daily for good health. Many cancer hospitals prescribe
carrot juice for restoring health. There is evidence in animal studies
that beta-carotene can be used with radiation and actually improve the
effect of the cancer suppression, with less damage to healthy cells
(Dr. Russell Blaylock, Natural Strategies for Cancer Patients). We buy
organic carrots from Kroger in five pound bags and juice four bags at

think juicing is too time consuming and expensive, then compare it to

Concentrated Nutrition

Why don't we just eat the carrots? That question has been asked many
times and here is the answer. Carrots are very difficult to eat. It
takes a lot of chewing to eat a pound of carrots. I always tell my
students, "Chew your food at least 26 times in order to get the full
digestive effect from the enzymes in your mouth before you swallow
it". Well, it would take a pretty long time to eat a pound of carrots.
Generally, 40 lbs of carrots juiced with a Green Star Juicer yields
about 20 - 8 oz. jars of carrot juice, that is if you don't add beets
or anything else to the juice and you don't peel the carrots (organic
carrots). In other words, 40 lbs. of carrots yields 160 oz. of fresh
carrot juice, or 1 lb. of carrots per 4 oz. of juice. So eating one
pound of carrots (about two medium sized carrots) would take you at
least 10 minutes and you would have expended a lot of energy and would
still have the pulp that your digestive system would have to digest
(separate the juice from the fiber - because the fiber has NO
nutrition and will pass through the body). It has been estimated that
30-35% of the nutrition in the carrots would be lost because of the
need to digest (separate fiber from juice) the carrots. So why not let
the machine do the work? That's exactly what it does. It separates the
juice from the fiber and you throw the fiber into your compost heap
for fertilize. You strain the juice and collect it in the jars to
drink the next 3-4 days. The eight ounces of fresh carrot juice is
quickly digested (in less than an hour) and goes straight to your
cells to provide the antioxidants and nutrition talked about above. As
brother Malkmus says, "It's like a transfusion going straight to cell
level". Juicing is work, but it is well worth it. The rewards highly
outweigh the time and expense involved. May God give you the will and

Doug's Pita Pockets for Lunch or Supper

Marilyn gave me permission to give you my favorite lunch. It's quick
and easy and it tastes great! Here's what you need:

Whole Wheat Pita Pockets (keep in refrigerator and they last over a week)
Fantastic Original Hummus (Made with garbanzo flour)
Vegenaise (Purple Label)
Red,yellow, or orange bell pepper slices
Tomato slices cut in half
Green leaf or red leaf lettuce
Organic spinach leaves
Canned black sliced olives
Organic grated carrot
Organic broccoli (just the florets)
Salsa as a topping

Now getting all this stuff into the pita pocket is an art. But with
practice it is well worth the effort. I spread the Vegenaise into the
pocket with a spoon then push some lettuce down into it to spread it
out. On top of that, spread the hummus. Then comes the spinach leaves,
sliced bell pepper, grated carrot, and broccoli. The sliced tomatoes
go last. On top of that I pour a small amount of salsa just to give it
more moisture. I don't put any oil in it because oil is too conducive
to heart disease. I like to eat my oil, if you know what I mean. You
might want to have a small glass of carrot juice standing by in case
your pita pocket is too dry. This makes a great meal and it is healthy
as well as nutritious. Enjoy it and tell Marilyn what a good job I did. Thanks.
