Hi, [first name]. Here is a Word from the Lord today: “And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams." - I Samuel 15:22 KJV

 First, Win the Battle Within

Winning the Battle for the Body

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Tempting casseroles, honey baked ham, juicy turkey, sweet smelling breads, pies, and cakes will call us. What will your response be? Even those of us who are on The Hallelujah Diet will be tested. In my new book, Winning the Battle for the Body, there is a quote from Oswald Chambers' book, My Utmost for His Highest, in which the writer gives us a formula for succeeding in our battle with the forces of temptation. It goes something like this.

If we are to win the battle for the body, that is, if we are to make the right choices based on God's Word and His perfect will for us, then we must first fight the battle of wills in our hearts. Chambers says "The battle is lost or won in the secret places of the will before God, never first in the external world." When Marilyn and I are faced with a tempting morsel of food that is very delectable, delightful, and delicious, but is also very damaging to our body temples, we face a battle in our will. Chambers says that if we wait for the battle until the temptation is presented, then we fail every time. The battle must be fought with the Lord in our hearts and the outcome must be decisive and final. Only then can we face the battle and consider it already won and decided.

[Later in this newsletter we will discuss a typical Thanksgiving meal and the dangers it poses. Marilyn will also reveal a safe and healthy alternative Thanksgiving meal you can easily prepare for your family.]

Realize that even a short escapade into dangerous foods will add to the water (toxic buildup) behind the dam (your body's homeostasis). And who knows what drop of cake, meat, or cheese will make it break into a flood of a stroke, a heart attack, an aneurism, or even cancer. Armed with trusted scientific nutritional information we can then settle the battle in our hearts and agree with God in our hearts that we will not succumb to the temptation to yield in the external world to our appetites. Practically speaking, when we are faced with ham, turkey, dressing, sugary desserts, caffeine, table salt, and many other such dead foods, we can resist temptation because we have already fought and won that battle in our hearts.

We urge you to study the latest science on nutrition and health and to realize that The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle is the closest diet to the original healthy diet that God intended for us to follow. It is simple, but not easy.

Read on and discover a new way to eat, to drink, and to live that results in health, vitality, and long life.

Thanksgiving Dinner: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly
.Marilyn and I are from Mississippi and we know good Southern cooking. Both of us had moms who could really put on a feast. Thanksgiving for us was a time of reunion with family members and a big table full of good food. That is - we thought it was good food because it tasted good. We did not know until about seven years ago that the good food we had been raised on was not actually good for us. All but one of our parents has died of heart disease. The surviving parent is in a rest home suffering degenerative heart disease brought on by a stroke. In 1999, we found out about The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle and it changed our lives. We realized that the foods we had been taught to love were damaging our bodies and leading to death.

Don't believe me? Then take a look at the typical Thanksgiving meal and see what lurks in those delicious morsels.

Turkey: According to the USDA, one 3 1/2 oz portion of turkey meat (size of a new deck of cards) contains anywhere from 8 to 13 grams of animal fat in addition to 69 to 89 mg of cholesterol (proven to cause heart disease) . It also contains 27-30 grams of animal protein, which contains casein, the animal protein that is a proven promoter of cancer growth in laboratory animals (The China Study).

According to the USDA, removing the fat from meat does not remove the cholesterol. For instance, if you trim the visible fat from a pork chop you remove 20% of the fat but only 10% of the cholesterol. The cholesterol is in the muscle of all animals.

Dressing: Contents of most turkey dressing is chicken fat, four or five eggs, milk, and salt. Dressing gravy is usually chicken broth, cream of mushroom soup, and another egg. So you've got lots of fat in the dressing and the gravy. The egg yolks in both dressing and gravy are loaded with cholesterol.

Casseroles: Most casseroles contain cheese which is an animal product full of both animal protein and cholesterol.

Desserts: Most desserts contain anywhere from 1/2 to 1 cup of sugar, which will disable your immune system and contribute to hypoglycemia and dementia.

Please heed our warning about these foods. Marilyn has a great alternative meal planned for you in the next section. Call us for more information at 877-200-0862.

 Marilyn's Delicious Thanksgiving Alternative Menu
Thanksgiving DinnerFor over 25 years I prepared what I thought was a wonderful Thanksgiving meal for my family.  That is until Doug and I found the Hallelujah Diet.  Little did I know then that the great-tasting food I had been preparing for my family was full of dangerous animal products, processed white sugar, table salt, white flour products, and all kinds of food additives like colorings, preservatives, and taste enhancers.

A typical meal for my family consisted of turkey, dressing, canned cranberry sauce, candied sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, brown rice (which was reallly just white rice with beef broth), broccoli rice casserole( made with white rice, Velveeta, and cream of mushroom soup), vegetable casserole (made with Velveeta cheese and other dangerous ingredients), white rolls, pecan pie, and sweet tea.  It’s truly a wonder we are still alive!!!

Since these were holiday favorites and our children were steeped in tradition, I reworked these recipes and added some healthier raw foods.  Now our table is graced with much healthier foods, void of animal products, white sugar, white flour products, table salt, and caffeine.  We enjoy a wonderful feast.  Here is a typical meal we now enjoy for Thanksgiving:

Cornbread Dressing, page 58 Simple Weekly Meal Plans
Cranberry Sauce, page 59 SWMP
Tiny Lima Beans
Fluffy Sweet Potatoes*
Vegetable Casserole, page 59 SWMP
Mushroom Rice**
Luscious Fruit Salad, page 40 SWMP
Best Wheat Bread, page 34 SWMP
Raw Apple Pie, page 62 SWMP

*Fluffy Sweet Potatoes – Peel 4 large sweet potatoes and cut into chunks. Boil until tender.  Drain all but about ¼ cup of the water.   Add 4 tablespoons of Earth Balance, 1/3 cup of pure maple syrup, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon of Frontier vanilla.  Using hand mixer, beat well.  Spoon into square dish and sprinkle chopped pecans over potatoes.

**Mushroom  Rice – Pour the following into a large casserole dish: 1-1/2 cups Lundburg Brown Rice, 2 cups Pacific Foods Organic Mushroom Broth (comes in a carton), one 7-ounce jar sliced mushrooms (don’t drain), 4 tablespoons Earth Balance, 1 package Good Season’s Italian dressing (This does not contain MSG.) Stir well and bake at 325 degrees for 1-1/2 hours. Hint: I usually let this sit covered for about an hour before baking to help the rice soften.

Spotlight On Sweet Potatoes

When I was in high school I had a sweet potato truck crop. My dad and I poked holes in the rows we had made and we pushed sweet potato slips down into them, then pushed the dirt over the roots. The slips were made from sprouts from the "eyes" of the sweet potato. When we were through we then took a bucket and poured a little water around the slips and then let the Lord do the rest. In a few weeks those slips grew into beautiful viney plants looking sort of like ivy. When we thought the potatoes were ready we plowed them up and discovered lots of beautiful reddish brown root vegetables which we sold to grocery stores and restaurants. And of course we took some home and put them under the house for eating later in the winter.

This Thanksgiving you'll probably eat some sweet potato pie, baked sweet potato, or candied sweet potatoes if you're a southerner. Sweet potatoes are a real blessing from the Lord. They are some of the lowest priced foods in the grocery and available almost year round. But did you know that the average sweet potato has virtually no fat and absolutely no cholesterol, while providing over 100 calories along with a long list of benefits? A sweet potato has ingredients that can brighten your mood, prevent cancer, heal heart disease, and clear up eye ailments. Following are five ways sweet potatoes keep you healthy:

First, sweet potatoes contain three cancer fighters in folate, vitamin C, and beta carotene. Second, sweet potatoes have plenty of fiber and potassium which are heart healthy nutrients which lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Thirdly, the beta carotene which turns into vitamin A in your body will protect you from cataracts because of its antioxidant power. Fourth, the potassium, magnesium, fiber, vitamin C, and beta carotene all combine to battle osteoporosis. And lastly, since sweet potatoes contain lots of vitamin B6 they will help balance chemicals in your brain and sweeten your moods.

Sweet potatoes are delicious, too. I like to eat them raw in my salad to sweeten it up. Just grate them into you salads or onto your sandwiches and you've got a sweet and nutritious treat. Good eating!
