Tell Your Friends How to Escape Cancer The China Study (http://www.alphaomegafood.com/hallelujah_books.htm) has documented the scientific evidence that animal protein is a major cause of cancer. It is the most extensive, scientifically sound, long running, wide ranging study ever conducted of the relationship between diet and risk for disease that has ever been undertaken. One of the most respected biochemists in the world, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, along with Cornell University in the U.S., Oxford University in England, several European scientists, and the Chinese Health Ministry in cooperation with the Chinese government, have compiled this massive study. According to Dr. Campbell, any food that contains animal protein, casein, has the potential to contribute to cancer growth in humans. In the book, The China Study, Dr. Campbell says that "we are very likely 'dosed' with a certain amount of carcinogens in our everyday lives, but whether they lead to full tumors depends on their promotion, or lack thereof...The result of these (studies of rats), and many other studies, showed nutrition to be far more important in controlling cancer promotion than the dose of the initiating carcinogen...Furthermore, a pattern was beginning to emerge: nutrients from animal-based foods increased tumor development while nutrients from plant-based foods decreased tumor development." The China Study confirmed these findings and concluded that casein in animal products was a major promoter of cancer and degenerative diseases. What are the animal products that cause cancer? All of them, including milk and cheeses. Even so-called organic livestock, still have casein in them. Why would God give us these foods if they were dangerous? This is a legitimate question. But we could also say that "Jesus walked on water, so why can't we?" Or we could say, "Jesus calmed a storm, so why can't we?" The obvious answer is that Jesus is God and He makes the rules and knows how to break them without consequences. When Jesus ate meat He demonstrated that meat eating was not sin. God did not command us NOT to eat meat. In my opinion, God allowed us to eat meat for at least two reasons, maybe three. The first reason is that up until Noah and his family walked off the ark God did NOT allow meat eating among His people. The scripture in Genesis 1:29-30 clearly says that the animals and mankind were to eat only plants. That rule did not change until after the flood. The flood waters covered all the earth even above the tallest mountain, for a long-enough period that nothing could have survived, except those on the ark. So Noah and his family step off the ark and they find that there are no fruit trees, vegetables, nuts or seeds, except for the ones that he had included on the ark. You would think that for a year on the ark that the food supply was getting kind of slim. If Noah had not been given permission to eat the clean animals on the ark (seven pairs of clean animals, one pair of unclean animals), we probably would not be here today. Most Christians who study creation science believe that there was an ice age following the flood that lasted maybe a few years. This would also give weight to the assumption that there was little plant food to eat immediately after the flood. So the first reason God gave us permission to eat the animals is for SURVIVAL. Even today, it is comforting to know that if we lose our supply of plant foods we can still eat the animals IF we have to. The second reason I believe God allowed the killing of animals was that He wanted to show His people that the sin debt must be paid for with a blood SACRIFICE. Animal sacrifice was begun by God when He had to clothe Adam and Eve with animal skins when they recognized their nakedness in the Garden of Eden after the Fall. God began teaching His children that one day a final sacrifice would pay our sin debt once and for all, pointing to the sacrifice of His only begotten Son, Jesus, on the cross of Calvary. The third reason I believe God gave us the animals to eat may be more difficult to accept but I believe that it is nevertheless valid. When Adam and Eve sinned, God cursed the world and drove them out of the perfect garden. As a continuing part of the curse of sin, I believe that God gave us a less-than-perfect environment and a less-than-perfect diet that would guarantee that we would not live long and healthy lives. He gave us a SENTENCE of death. One last thought. Jesus would have alienated his audience if He had come to earth condemning meat eating. He would have destroyed the law and would have confused God's people about the law of sacrifices. Today, we can survive well without animal flesh. Science has proven beyond doubt that we can live healthy, normal lives by eating only plant foods. So join me in accepting God's perfect will, not His permissive will in returning to the Garden diet that He intended for us and will once again institute in the "peaceable kingdom". Raw Maple Apple Pie Note: I made this pie for our last class meeting and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope you do too Maple Nut Crust: 2-2/3 cup pecans, chopped fine (I use my food processor to mix the crust.) 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup 1 teaspoon Frontier vanilla Mix well then pat in a pie plate.
